Committee:                House Constitutional Amendments

Timeframe:                 Posted for passage in the House Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Message is for:           All House Leadership, YOUR Representative, and Members of the House Constitutional Amendments Committee – aka Elections

Message:                      “Vote No on HB 2; the citizens of Kentucky cannot afford any new taxes. Local governments need to live within their budgets and stop taxing its citizens every time they need to pay for something as if we are a credit card.”

Optional:                    E-mail the legislators on the committee. Example e-mail address: Firstname.Lastname@lrc.ky.gov . If that doesn’t work they have a contact page on their informational page.

Note:                                   This TAX INCREASE has both Democrat and Republican support as the leaders of both parties in the House are Sponsors. It passed the House with Republican support.

Information:                   This bill would give local governments the ability to implement a Local Option Sales Tax in order to pay for Capital Projects.  This will be used repeatedly and more than likely drive business away from an area. It is however, a constitutional amendment, and so it must be submitted to the citizens for a vote.

GOVERNOR ALERT:    Governor Bevin is not opposed to signing this legislation into law as he is quoted as saying:

He also said he will “not lead the charge but will not be an obstacle” to efforts to get a constitutional amendment to allow local citizens to vote on the funding of building projects and their costs with an optional sales tax.” SOURCE: http://www.kentucky.com/news/politics-government/article49738195.html check the bottom of the article.

Call 502-564-2611 and tell Governor Bevin not to allow local governments to raise our taxes.

One Response to “OPPOSE HB 2: LOST – Local Option Sales Tax”

  1. Jeannine Smith says:

OPPOSED to HB 2 as it will raise out taxes and require a vote by the taxpayers resulting in a constitutional amendment that will be voted down.
KY taxpayers can afford additional taxes.
