Information: This bill would freeze tuition and other incidental fees by State Public Universities for 4 years. At first glance one might think this is interference in the free market, but public universities are not private entities. Universities have continually increased the price on students year after year while investing in projects that do not enhance learning. Many top level positions at our public universities are paid excessively. We feel this is good temporary measure to force the universities to look at cutting expenditures instead of putting everything on the backs of the students and then asking for taxpayer funds and bonds from the state.
TBK voted to support this bill but we would also like to see incidental fees defined as this puts a freeze on those as well. The concern is the universities may find other revenue generating avenues off of the students that would violate the spirt of this law.
